Girne American University Celebrate Their 28th Graduation Ceremony Following on from Their 30th Academic Year Anniversary Celebrations!
The remarkable academic accomplishments of the Girne American University establishment during the last 30 years, in unison with the success stories of the 730 GAU 2013/2014 Spring Term graduates from 30 countries worldwide, were celebrated together in an enthralling and truly inspiring 28th Graduation Ceremony recently held at the Girne Amphitheatre; attendees of which included the following invitees; Former Ambassador, President of the European Diplomats Union and EU Parliament Member, Günther Meinel; President of the Turkey Diplomats Union, Ferhat Bozçelik, The Ministry of education and Higher Education Manager, Hüseyin Kavaz, The Director of the Turkish News Agency – Cyprus (TAK), Nariman Saygılı, and The YODAK Board Member, Olgun Çiçek, proud relatives and friends of the graduates, and GAU staff members and students respectively. Introduced with the National Anthem and a respectful moment of silence, the euphoric atmosphere of the 28th GAU Graduation Ceremony included speeches from the GAU Rector, Prof. Yıldırım Öner, the GAU Chancellor of the Board of Administrators, Serhat Akpınar, the GEO CEO and Vice Chancellor of the Board of Administrators, Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi, Former Ambassador, the President of the European Diplomats Union and EU Parliament Member, Günther Meinel, and the 2013/2014 Spring Term First Class Bachelor Degree holder in Common Law (LLb) graduate, Miracle Chinwenmeri respectively; all of whom conversed their pride in both GAU as an establishment and the success of the GAU students, whilst simultaneously emphasizing the importance of education in life progression and the subsequent creation of prosperous career opportunities.
The 28th GAU Graduation Ceremony, held further to the recent 30th Academic Year Anniversary of GAU establishment, included the presentation of a GAU Honorary Doctorate Degree being presented to the Former Ambassador, President of the European Diplomats Union and EU Parliament Member, Sir Günther Meinel, by the GAU Rector and Chancellor of the Board of Administrators, Serhat Akpınar; the GAU Rector, Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner, and the GAU President of the Board of Trustees, Memduh Erdal, respectively. Sir Günther Meinel, who in addition to working as a diplomat for 25 years, established the International Diplomats Union in 2000 together with the European Union Expansion Officer, Captain Günter Verheugen, and was elected to the Presidency of the International Association of Diplomats as decided upon by the EU Commission. During his inspirational speech at the 28th GAU Graduation Ceremony, Sir Günther Meinel stated that he felt honored to have been presented with the GAU Honorary Doctorate Degree and also discussed his passion for Northern Cyprus and the hospitality of the many people that he has met during his visits to the country. Sir Günther Meinel finalized his speech by stating his intentions to “work harder for Turkish Cypriots”.
