How to Apply

There are around 200 universities in Turkey. Most of them are state universities (around 120), and the rest are private or foundation universities. As StudyinTurkey.Com we have classified the Turkish universities into different categories so as to better help you with the university and program selection.

1-   Top State (Public) Universities Teaching in English

They offer almost tuition free Education to international students however you need to take those universities International Student Exam and you have to provide excellent academic GPA and also high Toefl IBT or IELTS result in English.

Example to such Universities are; Middle East Technical University- METU, Istanbul Bosphorus University, Istanbul Technical University.

These universities offer low state university fees which range between $500 and $2000 per year based on the program and university. Because of high standards, entrance is very competitive and you need to take a special international student exam (which measures math, analytical thinking and problem solving skills). You also should provide excellent high school grades and a high TOEFL or IELTS score to prove your English level.

In order to enter top state universities in Turkey we advise our students to come to Turkey first year to prepare for the international student exam and TOEFL/IELTS through one  of our preparation centers. Such preparation usually may take up to one academic year. While you take the international student exam and English exam, we assist you for application to the top university programs.

2-   Top Foundation (Private) Universities

Some of the private universities in Turkey are in very high standards and listed in World Best University Rankings. Examples to such high ranked universities are Bilkent University, Sabanci University, Koc University.

Entrance to top private universities is competitive. They do not require international student exam, however they look for good grades at high school - usually 80% average. Language of instruction at these universities is English therefore you need a high score from TOEFL IBT/IELTS or be ready to spend one year at the university's English prep program. Some of the foundation universities also need SAT, GRE, GMAT scores as a requirement.

3-   Medical, Dentistry and Pharmacy Programs at State Universities

These programs are in very high demand from international students although quote assigned is very limited. Therefore chance for admission especially at top universities is very low.

In order to raise your chance for admission to these programs, we advise you to pursue at least one year of the international student exam preparation while improving your Turkish language skills in our preparation centers. 4-   Foundation (Private) Medical, Dentistry and Pharmacy Programs

There are good private universities in Turkey which offer medicine, pharmacy and dentistry degrees. Numbers of spaces available for international students are higher than public universities so you have a better chance for admission. In order to be admitted, you should have good grades at high school and be ready to pay between US$ 15,000 to 25,000 depending on the university. Language of instruction in some programs is English, some is Turkish.

5-   Other Foundation (Private) Universities

Turkey had many private-foundation universities during last 15 years. It has around 80 private universities now. Most of them, more than half, are based in Istanbul. The rest are based in Ankara, Izmir and other Anatolian cities. Northern Cyprus also has around 8 private universities where there are many international students.

If you do not meet the admission standards of top private universities, there are less competitive ones which we can help you with for admission. Tuition can be as low as $4000 per year, but it is $8000 in average. Language of instruction is mostly English but there are some Turkish medium programs as well. Required high school grade average is around 60%.

How to Apply

Step 1.
Find a suitable degree program for you to study in Turkey from our website or from our online admission platform:

Please read about program requirements from program specific website and directly contact the admission office at the university offering the program, or contact Study in Turkey if you have additional questions.

Step 2.

Prepare the required admission documents. If you intend to submit an application, it is also important to check country specific requirements (listed usually on the university`s website) to ensure the qualifications you are studying for are considered suitable for admission to the chosen university.

If you are applying to several programs at the same time, then bear in mind that different programs and universities may have different requirements (documentation, accepted English tests and scores, admission tests, interviews, portfolios, essays etc.) for applicants. Most of well-known English tests are (IELTS, TOFEL etc.) are accepted by all Turkish universities. PhD applicants are required to find a suitable supervisor before submitting the application.

Step 3.

Submit your application via the online admission system at the following

You can apply to several Turkish universities and programs with a single application. The admission system will guide you through the application process and inform you via email if any feedback is given to you by the university where you have applied. Make sure to finalize your application.

Step 4.

After finalizing your online application, send the printed online application with certified copies of the required documents (certificates of previous education, certificate of English skills etc.) to your first choice university. Please confirm with the university what documents you need to send. Make sure that the documents will arrive before admission deadline. Please check the deadlines in the admission calendar.

Step 5.

If you have been successfully accepted to study in your chosen university and you have confirmed your decision, the university will issue acceptance documents. You can find information on visa and temporary residence permit for studying under "Obtaining a visa" section on our website.
